Amazing!

Okay…this isn’t exactly what yesterday’s weather brought, but at times it certainly felt like it! Yesterday was the 10th Annual Hospice Memorial Walk - hard to believe it’s been 10 years!!!

Those of us that worked the walk were down at the Erie Basin Marina around 7 AM and man, it was cold! And windy! And wet! The amazing part to me is the number of people who actually showed for the walk…despite the weather. Plus, we had about 500 people show up and register yesterday - our highest number ever!

So, thanks to all of you who have supported our mission in any way and thanks to all the walkers…you are amazing!

Game 1 baby!!! Ryan Miller is the best goalie in the NHL. Period. It was a pretty good game…and how about Jay McKee with that goal out of the penalty box:?!!! We went to Wild Wings to watch the game and it was absolutely insane there!!!

1 down, only 3 to go to win the series…nice work, guys!!!

Reviews

So, a week without hockey has forced me to keep myself busy.  I had drinks with one of our own, home from the Middle East and that was the best part of my week.  I also finally wrapped up my 6-week long birthday celebration with dinner at Hutch’s last night with one of my good friends (thanks Alanna).  I also saw two movies this week and for the fun of it, thought I’d give you my review…

“Friends With Money” was a great movie.  I saw it with one of my girlfriends.  It’s a movie about the relationships we have with our friends and the relationships we have with our significant others.  It was really a great movie with a fantastic cast - Jennifer Aniston, Catherine Keener, Joan Cusack, Frances McDorman, Greg Germann, Jason Isaacs.  It takes a look at how we view each other amongst our friends and what happens in a marriage - well, the writer’s viewpoint anyhow - between a husband and wife.  I thought it was a good movie…

“Mission Impossible III” - well, first let me say that I don’t like Tom Cruise.  However, I enjoyed the action of the first two in this series, so I felt compelled to see the third.  And honestly, I was going to see Philip Seymour Hoffman as the villain - and he is yummy!  There’s lots of action, lots of travel and of course good v. evil.  I think waiting to see it on dvd is good if you don’t want to spend the $8 at the theater.  It’s a fun movie, though…

So, there it is.  My very brief review of two movies.  Good thing hockey starts again today!!!!  GO SABRES!!!!!!!!!!

Just Can’t Get Enough!!!

As many of you who know me or who have read my previous posts, I am absolutely a sports junkie! I’m a devoted Buffalo sports fan. I lived through the 4 superbowl losses, including ‘wide right’ and with hockey, ‘no goal’ because his foot was in the crease.

I’ve always been a sports radio listener in the afternoons. I typically listen to Jim Rome from 12-3 and then Schopp & the Bulldog on my way home from work.

These mornings, I find myself torn. I am a devoted fan of Shredd & Ragan, but have been listening to WGR 550 in the mornings because I just can’t get enough hockey talk!!! I’ve got hockey fever bad!!!

Saturday’s game will be on NBC. Monday’s game will be ONLY on OLN. The rest of the games will be on both OLN and CBC.

Boy, this week long wait for the new series to start has been torture! Good luck on Saturday and all next week boys!

*UPDATE*

Adelphia will play games 2-7 on channel 71 so if you have simply basic cable, you’ll still get the games!  Nice work!

Thank You

We’re now more than 3 years into the war. And more than 2500 soldiers have been killed in the line of duty. It’s not just our military putting their lives on the line either. It’s the Iraqi military and military from other countries. Also, there are a lot of civilian contractors over there working.

We forget too easily that while we go about our everyday lives, men and women are risking their lives, not just in the Middle East, but all over the world.

Periodically, I feel compelled to express my gratitude to those who are working on maintaining our freedom. We owe them everything.

So, thank you. We’ll never be able to fully express our thanks, but here’s a small start.

10 minutes?

So, the tix for the Sabres’ playoff games went on sale this morning at 9 AM.  Did you get tix?  Probably not is my guess.  There were truly only about 2,000 tickets for sale to the public after season ticket holders, league tickets, etc. are distributed.  I was lucky enough to go to games #3 and #4 of the Ottawa series with my friend Mark.  Unfortunately, we didn’t get tickets this time.  If you are one of the lucky ones who got tickets, have an amazing time.  HSBC Arena was crazy for games #3 and #4 of the last series, so I can only imagine how crazy it will be for this series.

Game #1 is Saturday at 2 PM on NBC.  The rest of the games are on OLN.  And if you want to hear Rick Jeanneret call the game, you’ll have to put your television on mute and tune in to WGR 550 to hear him.

Good luck boys and thanks again for an amazing season!

Thanks for an amazing look at the most incredible season of the Buffalo Sabres!!!

And thanks to the players for keeping the dream alive!!!

Everyday Heroes

Do you recognize them? You’re used to seeing them in uniform. Oh, and they’re usually wearing ice skates.

Chris Drury. Jay McKee. JP Dumont. Danny Briere.  Those are the guys in this picture.

Ryan Miller.  Jason Pominville.  Max Afinogenov.  Those are some more names.  The list goes on.

They are just a few of Buffalo’s heroes. They’ve made this hockey season the most exciting that most fans can remember in years.

They’re young. They’re strong. They can skate circles (and did) around other teams. They’ve been underrated by everyone in the league.

Whatever it is, the Sabres have provided us with excitement that this town desperately needed.

So, thanks guys. We know you just go out every night and play the games of your lives. But to us, you are heroes. You are the ones out there keeping the dream alive. Thanks for bringing the excitement whether it’s at HSBC Arena or in the opponent’s building.

In the words of Rick Jeanneret, ‘You certainly are making us believe.’
